Md. Habibur Rahman was born in Bangladesh in 1991. He received his B.Sc. (2012) and M.S. (2015) degrees in Fisheries and Marine Bioscience from Jashore University of Science and Technology (JUST), Bangladesh. His academic excellence was recognized early on with the prestigious University Gold Medal in 2012 and the Prime Minister Gold Medal in 2013.
Mr. Rahman is currently a PhD Fellow at the Chinese Academy of Sciences, where his research specializes in marine and environmental sciences. His work focuses on the impacts of environmental change on aquatic systems, spanning coral geochemistry—using high-resolution coral records from species like Porites to study climate variability and pollution—and marine geology, investigating sediment transport in the Bengal Fan. He has been recognized for his academic prowess through multiple prestigious awards, including the ANSO Young Talents Scholarship (2021) and the Silk Road Scholarship (2024), and was honored as an Excellent International Student by the university. He further augmented his expertise by completing a summer school program at the world-ranking Sun Yat-Sen University in 2025.
Concurrently, he serves as an Assistant Professor in the Department of Fisheries and Marine Bioscience within the Faculty of Biological Science and Technology at Jashore University of Science and Technology. An active researcher, he has authored and co-authored more than 20 papers in peer-reviewed journals. His publication record reflects a dual expertise, with significant contributions to leading journals in both paleoenvironmental research (e.g., Palaeogeography, Palaeoclimatology, Palaeoecology) and contemporary pollution and resource management (e.g., Environmental Research, Marine Pollution Bulletin).
