    Biography

I (Dr. H. M. Zakir Hossain) am Professor of Petroleum and Mining Engineering Department at Jashore University of Science and Technology (JUST), Bangladesh. My research focusses on both organic and inorganic geochemical aspects of the global carbon cycle in terrestrial and marine/oceanic environments. I am particularly interested in the biomarker and stable isotopes of fluvio-lacustrine or marine organic matter records to examine the nature of source rock and the controls on their maturity, kerogen type, redox condition and hydrocarbon potential. Also, I am studying major oxides, trace elements and rare earth elements (REEs) of clastic sediments and sedimentary rocks to understand maturity, source area weathering, recycling, provenance and tectonics. Furthermore, I joined Hakuho-Maru cruise (an ocean drilling ship accompanied in JAMSTEC, Japan Agency for Marine-Earth Science and Technology) for retrieved marine sediments from the Bay of Bengal, Andaman Sea, Gulf of Thailand, Indian Ocean, and East coast of Malay Peninsula in order to serve as a proxy for the potential input of continental/marine sources, regional vegetation types, redox potential and paleoclimate records during preservation of organic matter in the oceanic terrains. I achieved first class and third in merit position for both undergraduate and postgraduate degrees in Geology and Mining Department at the University of Rajshahi, Bangladesh. Furthermore, I obtained postgraduate and doctorate degrees from Geoscience Department at the Shimane University, Japan, and JSPS Postdoctoral Research Fellow (Standard) at Atmosphere and Ocean Research Institute (AORI), the University of Tokyo, Japan. Recently, I have completed JASSO Follow-up Research Fellow at the Shimane University, Japan. I published more than 42 peer reviewed papers and book chapters, and attended more than 45 national/international conferences.
