Dr. Sharmin Suraiya is working as a Assistant Professor, in the Department of Fisheries and Marine Bioscience, Jashore University of Science and Technology, Jashore 7408, Bangladesh now. At first, She has joined as a Lecturer in the Department of Fisheries and Marine Bioscience, Jashore University of Science and Technology, Jashore 7408, Bangladesh since 10 August, 2021. Before this, she joined as a Lecturer in the Department of Fisheries and Marine Bioscience, Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman Science and Technology University, Gopalganj 8100, Bangladesh on 25 November, 2018 and promoted as Assistant Professor on 24 April, 2021. The employment responsibilities of Dr. Suraiya includes conducting theoretical and practical classes for undergraduate and post graduate students, guiding Bachelor and Masters students for their theses and conducting developmental researches. Dr. Suraiya completed her graduation in Fisheries and Master degree in Biotechnology from Bangladesh Agricultural University, Mymensingh 2202, Bangladesh in 2006 and 2008, respectively. During Master research, she conducted research on genetic variation of freshwater fish. She also completed Ph.D from Pukyong National University, Republic of Korea in 2018, specialization on seaweeds, fermentation of seaweeds by molds; isolation and characterization of bioactive compounds from fermented seaweeds and determination of their bioactivity (anti-oxidant, anti-cholesterol/lipid lowering, anti-diabetics, immunomodulatory, etc.). Research interest includes utilization of aquatic weeds/resources as food, feed, pharmaceutical, and cosmetics. Dr. Suraiya is equipped with the culture strategies of mold, bacterial cell, and cell line. She is also skillful with edible pigments, lovastatin, and other bioactive compounds isolation from seaweeds & molds using different techniques and demonstration of antioxidant, gene expression, and lipid lowering activity. Her present research field is comprised of bioactive compounds isolation from aquatic weeds/aquatic resources available in Bangladesh and determination of bioactivity of isolated compounds. Major of her research findings are published in national and international reputed journals.
