    Biography

    Muhammad Abu Sayed has been serving as a Lecturer in the Department of Climate and Disaster Management at Jashore University of Science and Technology since February 4, 2023. Prior to this, he worked as a Program Officer at Rights Jessore (a humanitarian organization) from 2021 to 2022. He also served as a Research Assistant at the Center for Environmental and Geographic Information Services (CEGIS) in 2020, at Transparency International Bangladesh (TIB) in 2020, and at the BRAC James P. Grant School of Public Health in 2019.


    He completed his Bachelor of Science degree in Disaster Science and Management (currently named Disaster Science and Climate Resilience) at the University of Dhaka. He then earned his Master of Science degree in the same discipline from the same department under the Faculty of Earth and Environmental Sciences.


    He began his professional journey with the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) as a research volunteer in the LOGIC project in 2018. During his Master's studies, he worked as a research assistant in an internship program at Disaster Management Watch.

    He has received several trainings, including on Sexual and Reproductive Health and Rights (SRHR) and Persons with Disabilities (PWDs), facilitated by the BRAC James P. Grant School of Public Health. In 2019, he also received training on earthquake drills and tabletop exercises on disaster management from the Bangladesh Armed Forces Division.


    During his academic career, he presented his research at the International Conference on Earth and Environmental Sciences & Technology for Sustainable Development (ICEEST) in 2020, at Disaster Risk Reduction (DRR) & Opportunities-2019, supported by the American Geophysical Union (AGU) in 2019, and at the International Seminar on Disaster Management and Community Resilience Using Technological Intervention-2019, jointly organized by Monash University, PROTIC, and OXFAM in Bangladesh.


    He gained experience conducting a baseline survey on a water-logging initiation plan in the coastal area of Satkhira, in the southwestern part of Bangladesh, in 2014. This survey was conducted by the Climate Change, Environmental & Disaster Cluster (CCED) of UNDP.


    He was awarded the National Science and Technology (NST) Fellowship from the Ministry of Science and Technology, Government of the People's Republic of Bangladesh, in 2018. He also received a scholarship based on his Master's results from Dr. Muhammad Shahidullah Hall at the University of Dhaka.


    His research interests include climate adaptation and mitigation, hydro-geological work for sustainable groundwater, circular economy , urban climate , climate justice and equity, climate resilient infrastructure, and clean energy transition.
