Nafisa Nuari Islam is serving as an Assistant Professor in the Department of Climate and Disaster Management, Jashore University of Science and Technology from 29th July 2022. She started her journey as a lecturer in this department in March 2020. She has completed her MS (2019) and BSc (2017) from the Department of Disaster Science and Management, University of Dhaka.
She has experience working as a research fellow at OXFAM Bangladesh in 2019 and also in 2016. She also worked as a research assistant at UNDP under the LOGIC project. She has also been a research assistant at Technische Universitat Dresden, Germany. Before joining in the department, she had been working as a Young Professional at SAJIDA Foundation, a renowned NGO in Bangladesh.
Nafisa presented her research paper at several national and international conferences including International Conference on Earth and Environmental Science and Technology for Sustainable Development (ICEEST), 2020; International Seminar on Disaster Management and Community Resilience using Technological Interventions, 2019; DRR Exposure & Opportunities-2019 by the American Geophysical Union (AGU), etc.
She conducted several pieces of research already during her academic life. She got the NST (National Science and Technology) Fellowship scholarship in 2018. She also got a general scholarship on Honors result from the University of Dhaka. She got the general scholarship from the Dhaka board on both HSC and SSC exams.
Her research interest is to understand the disaster management spheres from diversified domains. She is interested in risk to damage and loss assessment of disasters, exploring the planning and mitigation initiatives, to find out the relationship between scientific solutions and social interactions. She also wants to work on climate change and modeling, sustainable development, and public health.
She is passionate to work with geospatial techniques including GIS and RS, statistical methods, and other quantitative and qualitative approaches.
