Dr. Mohammad Mahfuzur Rahman is a Professor in the Department of Climate and Disaster Management, Jashore University of Science and Technology, Bangladesh. Previously, Dr. Rahman was affiliated with the Department of Environmental Science and Technology from 2012 to 2023. Additionally, he served as the Research Officer for the Bangladesh Water Development Board from 2005 to 2012. He earned his PhD in Civil and Environmental Engineering from Nagaoka University of Technology, Japan in 2015. It is noteworthy that he holds a Master's degree in Environmental Science from the world's leading institute for water education, IHE-DELFT (formerly UNESCO-IHE), the Netherlands. He received a Bachelor of Science in Environmental Science from Khulna University, Bangladesh.
Along with his teaching duties, Dr. Rahman has also supervised 27 MSc and 36 BSc students on their academic theses. Dr. Rahman has also successfully assumed several administrative duties. In his capacity as a leading environmental expert for the BWDB, Dr. Rahman conducted environmental impact assessments (both post and pre-project) for several of the country's leading water sector projects. As a freelance environmental consultant for development projects, he has also led several feasibility studies/EIAs.
Dr. Rahman has implemented several research projects including one capacity building project funded by the World Bank through the Ministry of Education, University Grants Commission and Higher Education Quality Enhancement Project (HEQEP). The facility developed under the HEQEP sub-project (W-1, R-4, CP-6139) has been esteemed as the finest of its type by numerous stakeholders. He has also been actively involved in research and published more than thirty articles in leading journals.
He has also been involved in volunteering, networking, and knowledge sharing activities. He was the founding president of the Bangladesh Poribeshbid Society (2020-2022). He was the organizing secretary of the 1st International Conference on Biological and Environmental Research: Recent Developments, Challenges and Future Prospects (ICBER 2018) at JUST.
His research areas include Hydro-meteorology, Water management, Functional analysis of ecosystems, Ecosystem valuation, Wetland ecology and livelihoods, Environmental impact assessment and Change detection.
